Barcelona told €150m price for Arsenal star Saliba

Arsenal are making it crystal clear that William Saliba will not be leaving the Emirates this summer unless an absolutely extraordinary offer lands on their doorstep. The Gunners have slapped a €150m valuation on the French centre-back in an attempt to scare off some of Europe's biggest clubs.

The 25-year-old has developed into a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta's side, forming a formidable partnership with Gabriel Magalhães at the heart of defence. Arsenal hold all the cards in Saliba saga

Saliba put pen to paper on a long-term contract last year that runs until the summer of 2030. That deal gives Arsenal total control and removes any immediate pressure to cash in. The north London club view him as a pillar of their long-term project and have no intention of entertaining lowball offers.

Barcelona's interest makes sense from a footballing perspective. The Catalan giants are desperate for a long-term defensive leader and Saliba ticks every box. He is mature beyond his years, technically assured and capable of playing in a high line. However, the financial reality at the Camp Nou is far more complicated. Barca have had to carefully manage their wage structure in recent seasons and a €150m move for a defender would stretch their resources to breaking point.

Why selling would be a mistake

Arsenal should not even consider letting Saliba go unless the offer is utterly ridiculous. World-class centre-backs are incredibly difficult to find, and the Frenchman is already among the best in Europe. More importantly, he is entering his prime years. Selling him now would weaken the squad in a position where stability is paramount.

A €150m bid would be enormous, but money only helps if Arsenal can find an adequate replacement. There are very few defenders who combine Saliba's size, calmness, pace and technical quality. Keeping him sends a far stronger message than cashing in, no matter how flattering the interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and PSG might be.
