Chelsea set for transfer windfall as Ugochukwu joins Galatasaray

Burnley’s summer clear-out continues apace, with another midfielder heading out of Turf Moor. Instead, he was loaned to Southampton before being sold to Burnley. They have already cashed in on several key players, and the Ugochukwu deal is just the latest in a long line of exits. Earlier this week, newly promoted Coventry City completed a £20m signing from Turf Moor in the form of Loum Tchaouna, while other first-team regulars have also been linked with moves away.

Ugochukwu, now 22, will hope that his switch to Istanbul brings the stability he has lacked so far in his career. The defensive midfielder has bounced from club to club without ever settling, and a move to the Super Lig champions could provide the platform he needs to develop his game. Galatasaray have a strong track record of nurturing young talent, and Ugochukwu will be expected to compete for a starting spot in the heart of their midfield.

For Chelsea, the sell-on clause represents a welcome bonus. The Blues have been busy in the transfer market themselves this summer, both in terms of incomings and outgoings, and this extra cash could be used to fund further moves before the window closes.
