Ferdinand tips Man Utd to move for £85m Madrid midfielder after missing Fernandes
Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United will turn to Aurelien Tchouameni after losing out to Tottenham for Mateus Fernandes.

Rio Ferdinand has predicted that Manchester United will make a summer move for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni after missing out on Mateus Fernandes. The former United defender expects the Old Trafford club to target the French international once the window opens, having been reluctant to meet West Ham's asking price for Fernandes.
Tottenham are set to complete the signing of Fernandes from West Ham for a fee in the region of £85 million. United had held extensive talks with the 21-year-old's camp but ultimately baulked at the Hammers' valuation. Spurs appear to have won the race, leaving Manchester United to search for alternative midfield reinforcements.
Among the names on United's shortlist is Tchouameni, who cost Real Madrid £85 million when he joined from Monaco four years ago. Reports in Spain have suggested that the La Liga giants could be open to selling the 26-year-old this summer, with the player currently part of the France squad for the World Cup.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand claimed that United are deliberately holding back their funds for a statement signing. He argued that the club have taken a firm stance against overpaying for players they do not view as top targets, and that Tchouameni fits that description perfectly. 'I think Man United are holding their money back for one man and that's Tchouameni,' he said. 'If he becomes available in this market, United cannot afford to miss that one.'
Ferdinand also suggested that both United and Arsenal have adopted a disciplined approach to the transfer window. He noted that while other clubs may be willing to meet inflated fees, the two Premier League giants are sticking to their valuations. 'They may let another couple slip through the bag if the price isn't right,' he added, indicating that United are prepared to walk away from deals that do not represent value.
The potential pursuit of Tchouameni signals a shift in United's midfield strategy. The club have been linked with a number of options but appear willing to wait for the right player. Tchouameni's experience at the highest level, including Champions League football with Real Madrid, makes him an attractive proposition for a United side aiming to close the gap on the Premier League's top sides.
With the summer transfer window approaching, all eyes will be on whether United can convince Real Madrid to part with their midfielder. Ferdinand's prediction adds to the growing speculation that Old Trafford could be the next destination for the France international.
