Inter Milan plot €90m double swoop for Tottenham duo Romero and Spence

The Serie A giants are reportedly working on an ambitious deal to bring both Cristian Romero and Djed Spence to the San Siro this summer.

Serie A outfit Inter Milan are reportedly working on a bold double raid on Tottenham Hotspur, targeting defender Cristian Romero and full-back Djed Spence in a potential €90m deal. The north London side are expected to reshuffle their squad after narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League in 2025/26, and Inter see an opportunity to strengthen their own backline with two players who have impressed in England.

According to widespread reports from Italy, the Nerazzurri believe Spence could cost around €40m, while Romero’s asking price is set closer to €50m. The combined fee would represent a significant outlay, but Inter are said to be determined to test Tottenham’s resolve after a difficult campaign that saw them finish 17th for the second season running.

Romero’s future looks elsewhere

Cristian Romero, the 28-year-old Argentina international, appears increasingly likely to leave Tottenham this summer. Recent speculation has linked him with a move back to Serie A, where he previously shone for Atalanta, as well as with Barcelona. Inter have held talks with Spurs over the centre-half, though the financial demands remain high. With the London club already bringing in Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton as defensive cover, a departure for Romero now seems probable.

Romero has been a key figure for Tottenham since joining from Atalanta, but successive near-relegation battles have cast doubt on his willingness to stay. The prospect of Champions League football with Inter could be a decisive factor, and the Italian champions are eager to capitalise on Spurs’ instability.

Spence’s stock rises after World Cup

Djed Spence, meanwhile, enjoyed a stellar summer at the 2026 World Cup with England, which has only increased his appeal. The right-back’s performances on the international stage have attracted numerous suitors, and Inter are among those monitoring his availability. Despite Tottenham’s struggles, Spence has developed into a dynamic attacking threat from full-back, and there is a growing argument that Spurs would be wise to keep him.

However, with the club needing a major rebuild after back-to-back 17th-place finishes, convincing top talents like Spence to remain may prove difficult. Inter’s interest could provide an escape route, and the player himself might be tempted by the chance to compete for silverware in Italy.

Whether Tottenham can resist a double exit remains to be seen, but with the transfer window still open, the situation is one to watch closely. For Inter, landing both players would represent a statement of intent as they look to build on their domestic success and challenge in Europe.
