Liverpool and Arsenal face £145m Barcola barrier

Liverpool and Arsenal have been warned that securing Bradley Barcola will require one of the biggest transfer outlays in English football history. Paris Saint-Germain have set a staggering £145 million valuation for the 23-year-old, despite the winger not always commanding a regular starting berth under Luis Enrique at the Parc des Princes.

The French champions are using this summer’s inflated Premier League market as a benchmark. Recent deals such as Chelsea’s £117 million capture of Morgan Rogers and Manchester City’s £116 million move for Elliot Anderson have set new standards, and PSG believe Barcola is worth at least that level of investment. The club are financially secure and have no intention of sanctioning a discounted sale, leaving both English sides with a difficult call to make.

Liverpool lead the chase after Salah exit

Liverpool are in greater need of an established wide forward after Mohamed Salah’s departure this summer. The Anfield club view Barcola’s pace, direct dribbling and ability to operate on either flank as ideal for their rebuild under new boss Andoni Iraola. Initial discussions have already taken place, according to reports, and Barcola is seen as a leading candidate after Liverpool ended their pursuit of Yan Diomande. The acceleration and one-against-one threat he offers would fill the void left by Salah, while his versatility would give Iraola several tactical options across the front line.

Arsenal are also searching for added quality on the left after missing out on Rogers to Chelsea. Barcola could bring more unpredictability alongside Bukayo Saka and the club’s central attackers, providing Mikel Arteta with another dynamic option in wide areas. However, the Gunners are not believed to have matched Liverpool’s urgency or the level of contact that has already been made.

PSG’s depth limits Barcola’s minutes

Barcola remains highly regarded in Paris, but competition for places is fierce. Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia all provide strong alternatives on the flanks, meaning Barcola has not been guaranteed a starting role. That situation has not diminished his value in the eyes of the club, especially after he scored three times during France’s 2026 World Cup campaign, further strengthening his reputation on the international stage. Still, the £145 million price tag represents superstar territory for a player who has not consistently been PSG’s first-choice winger.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal should remain interested without accepting the full demand. Barcola is an elite talent with room to improve, but negotiating a lower fee would be smarter business. Unless the player actively pushes for a move or PSG soften their stance, pursuing a more affordable alternative may prove the wiser route.
